Take a motorbike tour in Laos, you will feel the true beautiful of the country. On the way you will pass over peaceful villages, rolling hills and scattered rice fields as well as famous sites from the North to the Centre of Laos.
Travelers are welcomed at the airport and transferred to the hotel for checking in. The room is available at 14:00. Enjoy the rest time of the day at your leisure and spend overnight at the hotel.
Vientiane - Pak Lay (B, L, D)
Start your adventure with your guide. We drive out of Vientiane and then turn onto the Mekong River road, the next 150m will be on compressed dirt.
Enjoy lunch along the way at a local restaurant. After that, we’ll take a track before meeting up with a great 75km stretch of paved road leading to some small ridges.
A ferry will take us to the town of Pak Lay, our first destination. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at a guesthouse.
Pak Lay - Hongsa (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we will start a ride north on road 4, and make a morning stop at remote areas to admire the natural beauty of rolling hills and scattered rice fields.
We’ll stop for lunch in Sayaboury and then take the way up to Hongsa.
The ride is on all dirt roads, with just a little paved bit around the towns. You can make stop at some point to record breathtaking picture along the way. Hopefully we’ll pass some working elephants along the road.
Depending on our arrival time in Hongsa, check in at the hotel and we may get in a short elephant ride (optional)
Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and a night in the quiet countryside.
Hongsa - Luang Prabang (B, L)
We will start the day with another Mekong River crossing before reaching Luang Prabang in time for lunch. You will have a free afternoon here to soak up a little city life, or simply relax along the Mekong River with a cold Beer Lao.
We suggest a walk through the night market. Any items purchased can be shipped to Vientiane.
Dinner on your own and spend overnight at the hotel.
Luang Prabang - Vieng Thong (B, L, D)
We will offer an early morning to those that would like to quietly observe the morning monk alms procession. This happens at about 05:30 and our breakfast is a t 07:15.
We plan to depart Luang Prabang at 08:00. The first 35 km are on paved road and then we take a turn northeast on a compressed dirt road. We’ll have a break along the way, as the ride is along the Nam Xeun River.
Our lunch is a mid way on the dirt road section and we’ll opt for either a picnic lunch or local place. We’ll ascend into the mountains after Pak Xeng and come to what we call “Rock Star Highway”.
We’ll meet up with a rural paved road and ride 95 km to Vieng Thong. Vieng Thong is a very small, out of the way town with limited services.
There is an attraction in Vieng Thong and it is the working office for Wildlife Conservation Laos. We’ll drop in for a look at the photo from the remote camera traps and learn a little more about the area. This is the most ‘rustic’ night we’ll have but the food is fine and we’ll watch the entire town gets rolled up after sunset. For those that like to experiment, the local restaurant has a selection of fermented rice wine, Lao Lao.
Vieng Thong - Sam Nuea (B, L, D)
We start off early today and continue riding east on the remote roads.
We’ll have an amazing ride through the Nam Et Phouy National Protected Area. The ride today is all paved, but the road conditions are not quite good. We can also pass many local villages along the way before arriving at Xam Nua by noon.
After a lunch, we will check in the hotel, then head east another 30km to Vieng Xai for a tour of the Phathet City established from the Indochina War. You will have chance to visit the caves with a specialist local guide. The caves are quite impressive and massive. During this part of the tour, there will be some walks on uneven ground and reasonable footwear is suggested. After the tour, return to Xam Nua for dinner and enjoy the overnight.
Sam Nuea - Vieng Xai - Phonsavan (B, L)
Early start and we are returning to the town of Vieng Xai. We’ll take a side diversion to Suan Hin Standing Stones mid morning and lunch will be in Nam Neun. Make a visit to Tam Piew Cave at the base of the high elevation road for a look at the view and learn a little history of the cave.
We are then on good paved road to Phonsavan for the night with a late afternoon arrival. Dinner on your own and spend an overnight in Phonsavan.
Phonsavan - Plain Of Jars (B, L)
We start the day with a ride to Site 1 of the Plain of Jars about 10 minutes out of town. We will continue onto site 2 and 3 afterward. Then we can make a trip to the old Xieng Khoung for lunch and return to Phonsavan, visiting remote villages. The area was heavily bombed during the late 1960’s and 1970’s and scattered bomb craters will be on the route.
We will back to Phonsavan in the late afternoon and tonight we’ll take time to visit the MAG (Mine Advisory Group) offices to see a short movie about unexploded ordinance clearing in Laos.
Dinner on your own and enjoy the night in Phonsavan.
Phonsavan - Vang Vieng (B, L)
We are on the way to Vang Vieng with a stop at the Buddha Cave for a small break slightly outside of Phonsavan.
Continue on some excellent windy roads to Phou Khoun where we turn south on Highway 13. Our lunch-stop will be a stunning hillside restaurant overlooking a deep valley.
After that, ride your bike to the town of Vang Vieng where we’ll stay for 2 nights. Dinner on your own and spend overnight at the hotel.
Vang Vieng Kayaking (B, L)
We will transfer around 10km north to the ethnic Khmu village of Viengsamay. After an introduction to the basics of kayaking, we shall set off down the beautiful Nam Song River. Row downstream to Tham None (Sleeping cave), which is one of the biggest caves in Vang Vieng. The cave is served as a rescue shelter for the villagers during the Second Indochina War. This is also the place where is home to a family of bats and the ‘Magic Stone’ of Vang Vieng. In the rainy season we will swim through the entrance to the cave. Enjoy sunset in the region before heading back to the town.
