Luang Prabang City – Kuang Si Waterfalls (B, L)
An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of alms from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession.
After breakfast, we make a trip to Kuang Si Waterfalls. En route, we can visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay – Hmong Village, Ban Ou – Laoloum Village and Ban Thapene – Khmu Village. The Kuang Si Waterfalls setting really illustrates paradise. Enjoy a picnic lunch and swim in the turquoise cool water.
Heading back to the city, we will visit the National Museum or the former Royal Palace, which displays a collection of the artefacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture. Also the Central Market is not to be missed. Then make a visit the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. Then, we will explore the Night Market, where you can find a lot of handmade textiles made by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.
Dinner on your own and spend overnight in Luang Prabang.
Luang Prabang – by boat Pakbeng (B, L)
Heading out of the town, we take a cruise upstream on the Mekong River and enjoy the tranquillity of the region. Make a visit to the mysterious of Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues in various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. Along the way, we can stop at Ban Xang Hai Village, whereí famous for Lao traditional whiskey. We then continue our boat trip to the atmospheric riverside town of Pakbeng. This scenic and authentic river cruise will be a once in a lifetime experience. Overnight in Pakbeng.
Pakbeng – by boat Houey Xai (B, L)
After breakfast, we visit the local market where many ethnic people converge from the outlying valleys and hillsides to sell their goods and buy provisions. Leaving Pakbeng, we re-embark on our boat journey toward Houey Xai, which is close to the famous Golden Triangle. The cruise is long, but tranquil river scenery will make this an interesting day.
